MY ADVENTURES
Land of the crystal lakes
In the summer of 2016, my girlfriend Raechelle visited me from Ottawa. It was her first time in western Canada and she had never seen a landscape such as this before. I wanted to show her as much of the Rockies as I could during her time here, so we packed the car and headed out on a roadtrip along the Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper National Park.
The drive takes you past deep valleys with bright blue lakes, rushing waterfalls, steep mountain peaks and vast glaciers. It's a truly stunning trip. The places we visited included Maligne Lake, the Columbia Icefield, and Athabasca Falls.

Stone fortificationsMy father Gary, a seasoned traveler and adventurer, visited me for a weekend, and as soon as he landed at the airport he began gushing over the hikes we would do.
Wasting no time, he found an amazing sounding hike that he thought we would both enjoy: Wilcox Pass, a climb through a mountain pass with incredible views of the Columbia Icefield, the largest icefield in North America, across the valley. |
Climb through darkness
My friends I wanted to do a big, epic hike before the end of the summer. We had heard of this hike in Waterton Lakes National Park, about four hours southeast of Calgary on the Alberta-Montana border, that was phenomenal.
The Crypt Lake hike, a 17-kilometre trek that involves taking a boat ride to the start of the trail and maneuvering through a 60-foot tunnel and walking along a narrow, steep cliffside, was breathtaking. From the trail one could see mountain goats high up on the sides of the slopes, narrow, deep canyons, and at the end of it all, the beautiful, eerily blue Crypt Lake. |
